Hydration TherapyIrvine, CA

Hydration therapy involves pumping water, minerals, and vitamins directly into the bloodstream using an IV. Intravenous therapy provides patients with faster hydration than simply drinking water or a nutritious diet. It includes electrolytes, other essential vitamins, and nutrients that may not be found in water or food.

At Harbor Medical Clinic and Wellness Center, we offer hydration therapy for patients involved in sports, regularly exercising, or deficient in certain vitamins. Our team can help you discover how hydration therapy can improve your overall health. To learn more about a procedure or schedule an appointment, call 1-949-551-1234 today.

    What is Hydration Therapy?

Hydration therapy provides patients with water and essential vitamins and minerals through intravenous (IV) therapy. The treatment infuses people with a combination of water and nutrients, and proponents claim it helps with everything from athletic performance to hangover relief and general fatigue. The fluids in the IV send the mixture straight into the bloodstream as opposed to the tissues and digestive tract, such as drinking water and taking vitamins orally.

Hydration therapy is more effective and faster at hydrating the body than natural ways of hydration and attaining vitamins. Fluids administered intravenously have a maximum absorption rate and are transported to parts of the body that need it most. However, this treatment should only be done periodically to avoid a vitamin overload.

    Good Candidates for Hydration Therapy

Hydration therapy is a good treatment for most patients, especially those who engage in sports, intense physical activity, or strenuous work. Water does not contain electrolytes, meaning it does not replenish lost energy from regular activity. Therefore, even those who drink plenty of water throughout the day may require an influx of vitamins and minerals to support and maintain good health.

Patients who travel frequently or spend long hours outdoors can also benefit from hydration therapy. Sometimes, a physician may recommend hydration therapy for those with vitamin deficiencies.

    Benefits of Hydration Therapy

Hydration therapy provides a plethora of health benefits to patients, especially those in need of these benefits. These benefits include:

    • Boosts immunity
    • Customized to each person’s body and health needs
    • Enhanced skin, joint, and muscle health
    • Flushes toxins out of the body
    • Improves cognitive function
    • IV hydration therapy is easier on the digestive tract
    • Reduced recovery time

Hydration therapy also helps improve general and total body health. Periodic and consistent treatments as prescribed by a medical professional can help upkeep and maintain good health for patients with no other health conditions. It is important that a medical health professional only administers IV therapy in a safe and hygienic setting.

    How Hydration Therapy Works

On the day of treatment, we will begin by sanitizing and numbing the injection area, typically one of the arms. We will also check the patient’s vital signs, weight, heart, and lungs to ensure their body is equipped to handle the immediate influx of fluids. We then insert the IV into a vein and keep the fluids flowing for about half an hour to an hour, depending on the patient’s recommended dosage. The patient can return to normal activities on the day of their IV treatment.

Excessive IV therapy may cause adverse effects, and some patients may experience slight discomfort or bruising following the treatment. These effects should dissipate within the first few days. However, patients who experience any symptoms for longer than three days should call our office and schedule a follow-up to determine the cause of the side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hydration Therapy

    What is hydration therapy?

Hydration therapy is a type of intravenous (IV) treatment that administers water and essential vitamins and minerals into the bloodstream. It can help strengthen your immune system and keep you hydrated for longer periods of time. The contents of the IV depend on your unique case and the nutrients you need.

    How does hydration therapy work?

We begin any treatment with an initial consultation visit in which we assess your overall general health. This helps us determine the type of IV and nutrients needed. On the day of treatment, we insert a small IV into the vein and administer the fluids for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your case.

What are the benefits of hydration therapy?

Hydration therapy is more efficient and effective than other hydration methods as it is administered directly into the bloodstream. It also provides patients with more than just water or fluids; it provides essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and in some cases, medication. Other benefits include enhanced immunity, flushing out toxins, reduced recovery time, and improved cognitive function.

Are there any side effects with hydration therapy?

Most patients do not experience any side effects with hydration therapy. However, in rare cases, you may experience infection at the injection site, rashes, vein inflammation and bruising, blood clots, or air embolism. We ensure that patients do not have any allergies to medications or the contents within the IV drip prior to treatment. If you experience any of the above side effects, call our office immediately.

How often can I undergo hydration therapy?

Patients who utilize hydration therapy for general wellness can undergo treatment every two weeks. In some cases, patients may need hydration therapy weekly. We will discuss this during the initial consultation appointment.
